List of Songs
Mr. Moon (Take it Away)
Mr. Moon (Take it Away) original song was written by Anthony Little, Jennifer Day Morrison & Nick Dukas. A jazzy song with 3 horns, jazz guitar, piano, stand-up bass, jazz drums and duet with Nick & Jyn. David Manson directed the horn section. Stan Collins got a standing ovation in the recording studio for his piano work.
This song was done prior and made into hits by Dean Martin and also in 1960 by Bobby Rydell. This is my interpretation of the song which is closer to Bobby Rydell’s version. Jeff Smick of the Florida Orchestra on the violin did a superb job to enhance this song. Tanya Lewis’ mellifluous voice is captivating on this recording as it is on other songs on this CD.
One and Forever Love
A profound love song written by Anthony Little, Doug Shawe and Nick Dukas. An original recording with strings, a glockenspiel, beautiful background vocals by Doug Shawe and marvelous piano by Bobby G Summers former musical director for Rev Al Green. Boh Cooper added greatly with string arrangement.
Love Came to Me
One of my favorite tunes; it came out when I was in school and loved the song ever since. Originally done by Dion, it makes me think of Do Woop, the Bronx, and Happy Music.
Black Magic Woman
Carlos Santana, with his Gibson Les Paul, will always be held in high esteem for his contribution to rock n’ roll including this song Black Magic Woman. Jason Dukas did an excellent job on the guitar along with Bobby Summers on keyboard to capture that Latin sound and feel.
Another great Dion tune! He is still one of my favorite singers. A simple song, basic rock, with yearning for all teenagers that transcends time. Tanya Lewis did a superb job on backup vocals.
Volare also done by Bobby Rydell and before that Dean Martin and covered by many other artists. I again leaned toward Bobby Rydell’s version with a few twists and changes. The song has spirit and passion from the first note. Jeff Smick, assistant concert master of the Florida Orchestra, added beautifully to the recording.
Love You So
Love You So done by Ron Holden is sometimes forgotten even though it was a top 10 hit. It makes me think of New Orleans, night clubs late at night. This song has a haunting melodic saxophone even with the blue notes for engaging our senses further.
My Pledge of Love
The drums done by Matt Poytner are so pulsating. Great guitar work by Jason Dukas and Ralph Blantz and Tanya Lewis again on background vocals.
That’s When Your Heartache Begins
Originally done in the 1930’s by The Ink Spots and in January 1960 Elvis Presley made it number #1 on Billboard. I find this sound with so poignant a message that sometimes happens to us with heartbreak. We added the sax for a sadder feel to express the heartbreak with the instrument instead of the prior version speaking that section of the recording.
Queen of the Hop
Kenny Walker on stand up bass for this song as well as many others on the disc make “Boogie Woogie” come alive. Originally done by Bobby Darin in 1958 it still speaks to music listeners. You can’t help but move as you listen.
